This causes the pistons to oscillate in & out. The design of the lip seal makes it a mini-pump. On the way out, a vacuum is created behind the seal, the lip collapses, and air is drawn in. WebRemove the retaining screws on the starter solenoid (use penetrating oil if rusted in place) Separate the solenoid from the starter by sliding or unscrewing (catch springs and shims) See if your replacement part has three or four terminals; Install the new part (never press in at an angle) Reinsert screws (no excessive tightening)
